She leaves to cherish her legacy of love and empathy: her daughter, Ethel “LuLu” (Charles) Selma two sons, Larry (Kimberly) Robinson and Edwin Mitchell, Jr. her parents, Nelson and Ethel Smith and her two brothers, Otis Smith and William Richardson, Jr. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Edwin Mitchell, Sr. Nelsie transitioned to her eternal resting place at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 16, 2023. She further supported the Vicksburg populace via her dutiful service in several organizations, such as Meals on Wheels and the Diabetes Association. Her grasp for southern cuisine and desserts was in high demand throughout the community. Following retirement, Nelsie became immersed in the culinary arts, feeding her love for cooking that began when she was just 8 years old. She also cared for countless Warren County citizens as a physical therapy technician at Vicksburg Medical Center, retiring after 18 years. Nelsie accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a very young age and was baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a life-long member and Mother of the church.Īfter attending Bowman High School, Nelsie aided the public by working as a certified nursing assistant. She was also preceded in death by one child, Roy Jean Butler and her siblings. In 1968, Mary married husband Eugene Branham who preceded her in death. Many times she would buy things that the church needed and she would also run the church donation drive. On Sundays she would cook for different pastors who would come from out of town to preach at her church.Ī true believer in Christ, Mary was a faithful member of The Church of the Rising Star Church of God and Christ. Everybody would eat at her house on Saturdays. In fact she would cook for everyone in the neighborhood. Mary loved to work, take care of her children, and cook. Howell, the school librarian often said that Mary was the smartest student at Weldon High School. Mary grew up in Gladewater, Texas and attended Weldon High School in Gladewater, Texas. She was the youngest of five children Son Jr., Geneva Butler, Florell Butler, and Tommy Lee Butler. She was the daughter of the late Son and Minnie Butler.
