These are what you mostly use in the single player. You can pick up more scattered around the map. They are like paladins with shovels, although they require a root to heal people and can only carry 9 roots at a time. Sometimes though the explosives will defuse mid air and sometimes at the worst possible moment when you need it the most. They make up with that by lobbing endless explosives, and planting bomb packs on the ground. Great for flanking ranged units or kiting other enemies into traps.ĭwarves - Slow can't defend themselves and have low health. ![]() Can also shoot fire arrows that can ignite any explosives on the ground.īerserker - Really fast with good damage with the trade off of having no armor and being easier to kill. Best left near archers to defend them from flanking fast units.īowmen - Weak damage and slow, but can shoot constantly from afar. Warriors - In the middle speed wise but super tanky and do decent damage. Game follows a rock paper scissors formula for the units except the dwarf unit that adds an extra layer of nuclear bomb to the mix. You are out numbered on every map, brute force is never the right way. This is the game Bungie learned how to make a great combat puzzle. The magic comes from while traversing to those objectives you'll be besieged at any moment from any direction, and you'll have to adapt on the spot and form your battle lines or set up ambush traps as fast as you can. You'll find yourself doing basic stuff like defend a point on the map, or escort a NPC, or destroy a specific thing on the map, or just straight up survive. If I had to describe it I would call it small scale Total War mixed with a bit of Warhammer. No resource management, no base building just a few rag tag units for you to control and traverse large maps to tackle different objectives. ![]() ![]() Soundtracks for both games were composed by the same people that did the Halo music later on.
